This is for Brian and Jill.Brian Joyce is a very close friend of mine. Many of you probably know him best from the band My Morning Radio. On all fronts, he is one of the most caring and compassionate people I've ever known, and deserves the world. About two weeks ago, Brian and his wife, Jill, became adoptive parents of a beautiful baby boy named Milo, whom they brought home two weeks ago. Having known Brian for the last few years and understanding the hardships he and Jill have endured to have a child, I couldn't have been happier for them. Every day we would text back and forth and he'd keep me posted on when the baby was coming; all the details.
Yesterday, the birth mother had a change of heart, and though this shouldn't even be a possibility, she chose to take the baby back and to raise Milo herself. By law, the mother is given 16 days to change her mind before the adoption becomes permanent. A social worker came to the house and forced Brian and Jill to say goodbye to Milo. The pain they feel isn't tangeable to me, and even though I am heart broken for them, I can't possibly fathom how much it must hurt. My thoughts and love are with you both.
